Indus is the community around the corner of Minnesota State Highway 11 where the Indus Store once stood. The building was demolished during widening of the state highway
in the summer of 2012. The “new” Indus public school, built in 1978, located about 3 miles west of where the Indus Store once stood, is still open and offers a Pre-K through grade 12 program. The school has an enrollment of about 165 students with about 35 of them coming from inside the district. Most activities at Indus revolve around educational and community events at the school. The Manitou wayside rest and shore fishing area located just a bit west of the school offers year round outhouses and fishing access. The scenic Rainy River is accessible by steps, a walking path or a 4-wheeler trail.

Some of the community events in Indus include:

  • Indus school sports games
